The manual suggests wrapping the defuser in foil, or else you have to clean it every time you use it (and it looks like it would be hard to clean something that big). How do you foil wrap a two piece?
I feel CHEATED that Yoder STILL, after countless customer comments, continues to sell the YS640 with the original diffuser plate yet they pitch the benefits of the direct grilling capability. …AND they sell the original diffuser plate for $39 while the optional diffuser with the direct grilling hole and cover is $169!!!–$130 more, 433% the cost! I bought my YS640 with the optional diffuser plate as I could plainly see the original plate would be (and is) a PITA to use but You must buy the original diffuser even if you just want the two piece one. So now I have a brand new diffuser plate which no-one wants! Even my dealer said they have been talking to YODER about this repeatedly. YODER, please listen to your fans and do the right thing–SCRAP the original diffuser and make standard the "optional diffuser", which is AWESOME–even raise the cost a few bucks–we'll pay it. It is this very diffuser that helps to set the Yoder pellet grill apart from the competition–800 degrees at the grates!–and an easy conversion to get there. Or how bout this–Chef Tom, start doing your videos where you switch from indirect grilling/smoking to direct grilling by using the original diffuser plate, not the OPTIONAL plate and showing how you actually have to pull out all the grates, the top shelf and remove the plate in real time with a hot grill!
Nice! Tired of having to remove my one piece 640 plate to direct grill and to clear fire box prior to ignition. Going to buy this now. You guys should definitely discard the old design and include this one with all your 640's.Thank you.
What does the clean up look like after burning a few ribeyes over the direct flame?
I would love, love, love to see a video about smoking without a smoker. I know you can do it, I've done it, but I'd love to see how you do it.
I could be wrong but I havent seen any recipes with duck or much seafood to be honest, can you make some videos incorporating that

I REALLY want to get a Yoder YS640 but there's only two websites that sell them in the UK and they are both OUTRAGEOUSLY overpriced (the cheapest being equivalent to $2832, the second being $3061 both with NO optional extras included) As opposed to the US where you can pick one up for around $1,449. You can basically buy two yoder 640's from the US for the price of one in the UK, pretty disgusting if you ask me! I realise they're made in the US but is shipping really THAT bad? (I Guess so!) – anyone knows a cheaper place I can pick one up let me know!!! (sites used in the UK are thebiomasshut and bbqpit)

This should just be included in the smoker when it ships. I can understand offering this as an accessory to purchase for people that already have a ys640, but come on? If you come up with a way to improve your product…then improve it and raise the price a little. All you are doing is making people pay for the standard solid plate ( which will be removed and placed against a wall in the garage for all eternity) as well as paying for this when ordering a new smoker. I really want one of these smokers but this is the one thing about the makers of this that pisses me off…the fact that they won't let you substitute this for the regular plate for a small upgrade fee…nope you have to essentially pay for both plates even though you just want this one.
