Just before Christmas last year I sent 96 cans of lower sodium Spam to a friend in the Philippines . Understanding she would share with friends , family and even neighbors . They have great obsession with eating it as well as corned beef in the can . I've recently fried a can up and at all of it . But , I would not eat it again .

There's a GADGET to cut up SPAM! It's like a little harp, like the tool you use to cut up boiled eggs. Not expensive. Made in Korea, simple and works. You get like ten slices, there are different ones. It's just dragging wires through it, it's not knife blades but it works. If you're setting out to make SPAM Musubi or something it's worth having. It takes more time to wash the thing than to make the cut. So when I open a can of SPAM I just put it on the cutter immediately, make the slices, and put them all into a plastic storage container, less two slices for the breakfast I'm about to enjoy. SPAM, eggs and rice, cup of strong black coffee. A friend sent me a picture of a huge poster for this, in the window of a MacDonald's in Hawaii. It looked good in the picture, so I tried it and now am really a fan!

I like salty food and use salt and MSG liberally in cooking, and still think SPAM is a little over the edge on salt. As someone mentioned earlier in the comments, this makes it a hit with rice, It's a little jolting by itself. I have found the GV store "SPAM" and the one at ALDI (which I think is from Denmark) pretty much on the level, also a Latin brand sometimes see for $2.50 (something Jamonada. Tulip? I forgot). Treet is just sad, sort of damp and flabby I think. "From hunger" as my people say.

They taste different. The 1st one tastes better, but the other one is sometimes only $1.39. When you fry the first one, it tastes like bacon, but the cheap one is more like a fried hot dog. 🙂
