As most of you already know my local Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, Dollar General or Walmart stores are my own personal adult playgrounds. I shop at these stores to find food that is generally highly processed, full of fillers and simply bad for us to eat regularly! Meat, vegetables, canned food, frozen food, refrigerated food, boxed food, vegan food, vegetarian food and all sorts of prepared foods, if it’s cheap and questionable I will do a taste test and food review on it! I also show you these foods are no bargain like these discount stores and manufacturers lead you to believe. I do this to show you that fresh foods are not only healthier, but they’re also cheaper than these so called bargain foods. So far I haven’t gotten sick, but some of these foods are certainly questionable and have come close to making me sick.

Chipped beef on toast was breakfast for me literally EVERY DAY during basic training in the army. Even out in the field, we had breakfast from the convoy cooking truck. The chipped beef on toast was the standard breakfast. I loved it!
Went from a rail thin Skeletor (6'0" and 137#) to (173#) in 2 months. Ye gods, it was great.

I've had SOTS since I was a kid. We do toast, budding beef and beef gravy over mashed potatoes and we layer it.. bread, gravy, beef, potatoes, gravy, bread— and continue 3 slices of bread high.. it's so good. We don't do the creamed gravy, we do brown gravy.

SoS is a delicious meal to make and my favorite is substituting the toast with brown rice. I also season the hell out of everything so mine is usually really spicy but savory as well.

Making it is incredibly easy. Melt a tablespoon of butter in a small skillet and add a tablespoon of flour. Sautee it until it's well-mixed, smooth, and maybe just a little browned. Then add some milk (maybe a half cup to a cup), mix it in, and bring it to a simmer until it's thick. Start with a little milk (a half cup) and after it's thickened add more until it's thinned enough to be like a gravy. Add salt, pepper, and dried, chipped beef (sold in packets), and you're good to go.

I had SOS once every couple weeks growing up. But it was ground beef and skillet gravy served over toast. Wasn't till I was older that I saw the frozen heat and serve kind. And It wasn't what I expected but it was good. And now is a staple in quick lunches. ?

If you can slice it at home, Yugoslavian bisterma (which is probably the origin of "pastrami"), makes an amazing chipped beef (and possibly the origin, with "Greek"-run diners in NJ).
