We do the batter a little different here in New Orleans. It's still a light batter. But man you missed a few steps that can make those crabs the most delectable and tasty crabs ever! If you are ever hear let me know.

New Sub your stuff looks GREAT!!!! I am sure taste great too. I am going to try this and the fried oyster recipes you posted. I love seafood and especially the softshell crab. While I love my oysters raw I'm about to fry from time to time! Thanks!

My mouth is watering Larry! Soft shelled crabs are my ultimate favorite seafood meal. I grew up in New Jersey and we use to have softies on a regular basis. Living in North Dakota, I have not had soft-shell crab in over 20 years. You are right, Less is more when it comes to softies. Mouth is still watering!

Never had 'em but sure do want to! Soft shells are seasonal, are they not? Maybe I shop at the wrong time of year, or simply overlook them. Saw some on a an Asian menu once, an eggroll type thing but…not knowing my straw from the hay on the ground….wasn't sure what I'd be getting!
Salt and pepper, eh? That's your story and you're sticking to it? As your former legal advisor, I say: Good for you Larry!! Looks good enough to blow yer crab face off;)

Also I've heard about those home grown garden fresh hothouse tomatoes, but can't seem to find them in the store, either….hm, guess I'll have to mail order those too! 🙂

I recall getting soft shell crabs in a very swank restaurant once, in a beer batter so heavy you almost couldn't tell what was inside it. I wasn't impressed…

LOL @ "home grown, garden fresh, hot-house store bought tomatoes"!

Larry, I think I told you this before, but we have planned entire vacations around the availability of soft shell crabs on the east coast. From Virginia Beach to New Orleans, and many stops like Myrtle Beach in between! Yours look as delicious as any we've ordered from the best restaurants! Your advice to use only salt and pepper makes great sense! Your cooking instructions were superb! I need to taste these again! It's been too long!
