    No you do not need to thicken this soup with cornstarch. You DO need sesame oil and Shoyu (soy) sauce. These come in a range of qualities and prices. A tiny bit of sesame goes a long way. Real soy sauce is fermented, buy the fake stuff is fine for this soup.
