I just made some hot dog chili sauce. I threw in a big handful of chili powder, I thought, but actually it was cayenne pepper. I like my food spicy but I have my limits. At that point I thought I probably had ruined it, but the meat and onions were already cooking so I decided to finish it anyway and see how it tasted. I did add about a Tbs of apple cider vinegar to see if that wold offset some of the heat. I let it simmer for about 40 min. and then tasted it. It was amazingly good. I could tell the cayenne was in there but it was not overpowering like I thought it would be.

Given how you make hot dog chili, I am surprised you liked Cincy chili, considering how wildly different they are. I'd recommend a Detroit-style chili, but you'd probably mistake the beef heart for TVP or something.

Pro Tip: Never drain the grease from the ground beef. Cook it out until it's completely gone. That's too much flavor to waste, especially for something as amazing as hot dog chili.

In what region of the country is this "hot dog" chili? Looks good for sure, and great quick to the point video to boot. This is very close to Southern hot dog chili, but I'd use tomato sauce instead of diced tomatoes, and put in some mustard vs using cider vinegar

Best to order the chili powder from one of the New Mexico suppliers out there. Better yet, just use New Mexico ground red chile. You are already adding cumin and oregano. Supermarket chili powder is often stale and rancid…and expensive for what you get. Fresh NM chile is inexpensive and delicious.

Wow I semi-followed your recipe and it was amazing!

I cooked my burger with salted butter and added beef stock powder and minced onion til browned. (Drain grease)

I simmered 4 cans of chili beans and added the hamburger, then most of the spices you had, asides from the granulated garlic powder (didnt have any)

It had a strong bite of spice, but I added a can of tomato sauce and it ended up perfect. (I am cooking for two children thats why lol)

    Sweet, spicy and delicious!

    Thanks my man!
