Lets go over the pros and the cons of using a pellet smoker vs a gas grill.
Pros of a pellet smoker
– superior flavor created from cooking with real hardwood
– perfect temperature control using electronic control board
– can control grill temp remotely using wifi
Pros of a gas grill
– Gets very hot very fast
– ease of use. Gas grills require almost no maintenance
Cons of a pellet smoker
– They do not get as hot as a gas grill
– Because they use electronics they are not as reliable long term
– they require more cleaning and maintenance
Cons of a gas grill
– they do not have as good of a flavor as cooking with hardwood
– They dont offer perfect temp control like a traeger does
Thats about it. Watch the video so you can see the taste test at the end! Does a steak taste better cooking on a gas grill or a pellet grill!

Get on Craig's List and lookup 'pellet grill". The people who bought them are ready to move on. Propane costs less than wood pellets. Pellets are NOT all hard wood. Who wants a smoke flavored desert? Can you make cornbread or biscuits and gravy on a pellet grill? Side grill? Forget that. Too many drawbacks for a pellet grill. I am with Hank Hill. Propane is King. Next, a Weber kettle for most other uses is great, but NOPE to pellets. Oh and look for a free standing propane burner to do fries and fish to perfection.
You lost me at "Heat and outside with electronics means replacement parts." Seriously? Just making that assumption is ridiculous. It is entirely possible to make that combination incredibly durable under those conditions. Using that as a con is completely arbitrary.
The thumbnail made this look like some kind of weird R2-D2/C-3PO homage
I had a gas grill and the nobs melted off. And I wanna smoke a brisket, too. Just buy a cheap smoker and a new gas grill?
My question. What if you buy the Pit Boss Platinum KC Combo grill (pellet+gas). Best of the both worlds! https://youtu.be/w7PUQ9Wyj_U
Thanks for saving me several hundred dollars. Gas is the way to go.
Ive owned and used them all. All can be picked up cheap on the used market. Use what you can get a deal on. For one grill does it all webber kettle for the win.
Ive been using gas grill my entire life and only got a wood pellet grill last week. After tasting the smoky flavour of steak, chicken, sausage and briskett, i dont think i will be going back to my gas bbq anytime soon. The wood pellets variety of flavours is something that excites me everytime i bbq. Plus the comvection heat is more controlled than a direct hear imho.
Are the hardwood pellets sustainably forested? I know hard wood takes many decades to grow large so would like to know if they are chopping the Amazon down so I can enjoy a tasty steak.
I personally always buy charcoal grills and get a better flavor than either a pellet or gas grill.
Gas grills or great for a steak, maybe burgers and dogs, They have a tendency to have flare ups, Everyone i have owned was next to impossible to cook a brisket, chicken, or pork, anything that has fat … Traeger has no flare ups as long as you keep it clean… literally 5-10 minutes for every 20-25 hours of use… Low and slow with Super Smoke … put a steak on 210 with super smoke for about an hour , then turn it up to about 450 and they will be ready at medium rare in about 8 minutes …. The extra smoke really helps the flavor ….
pellet grills… cook and give smoke flavor all the time. gas grill, you can cook without smoke, or get a smoke tube and smoke while you cook and still get that high heat. i was torn between a traeger and weber for my new one… went with a weber and getting a smoking tube so i can still smoke but when i dont want to, i dont have to. seems that is kind of the beat of both worlds. for me it just seemed that propane/gas grills can have more options… but that is just me.😊
Excellent video. Thank you so much. I made a decition now! Haha
So ideally sear on the gas then smoke it lol
Have used and owned gas grilled all my life and now have a Traeger. Would never go back to a gas grill. The ease of cooking and flavor doesn’t even compare to a pellet grill. The gas grill does give a much better sear though.
Forgot to mention gas grills flare up and catch fire much easier causing your food to get burned
If you reverse sear on the Traeger (I use the 885 Ironwood) it is smokey and has a good sear. So for longjobs I really love the Traeger, as mentioned. And for steak I still prefer charcoal grills like a simple weber kettle. Sometimes even "caveman" style directly on the coals. Still see no benefit of a gasgrill besides convenience. Good comparison tho & thanks for that.

You need 3 grills, gas , pellet and a charcoal.. some things just taste better in one over the other.
This is the first comparison from gas to to smoker grills. That you!!!!
Bought this to replace my old charcoal pot grill. Really easy to assemble MyBest.Kitchen taking me roughly 40 mins from scratch, all the accessories are helpful. Parts are labeled pretty clear with the necessary screws and nuts. Way easier to use in terms of firing up, fire consistency and cleaning. Really good build quality in terms of all the parts weight, paint quality and overall stability.
Awesome Video picked up a Genesis a couple of weeks ago, did some flap meat came out great ……….. maybe a pellet in the future for now I'll give the smoker box a shot.
