General Tso is often accused (by 25 year old white women) of being a pure western creation but i've seen a girl from guangzhou in southern china try it in a typical small town chinese resteraunt and proclaim instantly "Oh yes this is XXX" (forgot the name) "we have exactly this". She claimed the look and taste are perfectly identical, just with a different name. On a scale of 1 to 10 she proclaimed it 10 out of 10 authentic chinese food. Also "Tso" is a swear or impolite word apparently. It showing up later in a Taiwanese resteraunt isnt so suprising because many of the mainland people who fled to taiwan came from that region.

Her reaction to Chow Mein having no noodles was the most shocking thing. (because "mein" means "noodles")

6 bucks for this? At my local takeout you can get fried rice, an egg roll, and enough chicken to feed two people for 10 bucks. What a rip off.

Hehehe! Now I recognize you! You've been a bit… off(?) for quite a while and I've been missing that humour and edge of yours. Sorry it took a General Tso's Tofu thing to bring you out! 😉

I had it guessed pretty much right away but the minute you said “brown rice” I thought “Ick, it’s from a health food company”. And it looks like I was right. White rice is the only thing that belongs in a good Chinese meal.
I either make my own Chinese dishes or get them from the takeout. I don’t buy the disgusting frozen concoctions in the store. You can make the takeout meals last for several meals if you just cook up your own rice to go with it and go easy on the main course (which is generally so rich that you can’t eat much in one sitting anyway). Or you can buy a bag of riced cauliflower if you’re looking to avoid extra carbs.

Was doing some paper napkin math lol and found out you can get a 5 serving block of tofu for the same price, and with all other ingredients included you can make five servings for $11.73, that's at least the consensus here in SC. So that meal is $4.98 here with a 7% tax in our county that times 5…$26.60-$11.73=$14.87, so you save $14.87 and get 5 servings instead of just 1 for $2.34 a serving. Man they really cheat and cheap you out hard on these meals. Fresh is best, and let's face it, it just looks and taste better from scratch.

I love sweet Earth brand items, they make really good lunch slices and Benevolent Bacon is awesome, but the frozen meals are not good. They need to redo their frozen meals.
