I much prefer adding a can of Hunt's tomato sauce to the hamburg..instead of tomato juice. And to jazz it up..you add a little oregano, basil & parsley (dried or fresh). Much better. My Nonna's recipe from Italy. Oh..and cook in olive oil with a small piece of salt pork for extra flavoring.
Any idea how it got this name?
Made this tonight, it was delicious! I used to eat American Chop Suey in school, one of the Hot Lunches served in the cafeteria.
I make a version of this about once a month. Hubby loves it.
How the Indians picturize an American chopsuey: a crispy spaghetti nest smothered with a tangy, zesty vegetable sauce.
If extra lean ground beef is used, you can add olive oil, or as in this recipe, the butter adds a ton of flavor.
My grandmother used to make this, thank you for posting this.
This video has fed me twice haha
This is exactly what I grew up on in the Boston and Cape Cod area. I would dearly love to have your take on fish cakes. We used dry cod (baccala) that we soak, rehydrate, and rinse, and rinse, then with mashed potatoes and mashed fish mixed, we make fish cakes dipped in egg then cornmeal, then fried in a cast iron skillet. Anyway….fish cakes and baked beans are a staple in my area. I'd love to have you give it a whack. Thanks for considering it and thanks for all of your great videos. You are awesome!!
love it—-yummmmmm
drizzle some evoo & fire roasted tomatoes
Yep, saw a food network video triple d, they called it yankee doodle chop suey, place was in boston. Larry this recipe and the goulash should be in your budget meal series, if not there already
I thought Chop Suey was a song. Lol
Best chop suey recipe out there!!
In my family we called this dish beefaroni
The BEST EVER!
Thanks for sharing, Larry! That American Chop Suey recipe looks identical to the one that my housemate would make for himself from time to time! I've tried stuff like that and it was the tastiest "Ghoulash" that I've ever eaten! Thanks again for sharing your recipe!
Raised in New England and know (and love) this dish. ? Thanks for posting.
It's goulash in 90% of the country. In the can it is Beearoni lol.
You need to use a good macaroni for a recipe like this not just the cheap dollar kind. Creamettes would be my recommendation. I use tomato soup for the sauce.
Great recipe Hop Sing, it's a winner
my mom made hamburger helper
He said…fresh garlic, straight from the jar ???
20 percent fat is junk food. What you drain off is added water and the natural nutrients in the beef. Seems sorta wasteful. Then you add fat to it…ok. Get some real grass fed grass finished beef if you really want flavor. Find a rancher or farmer that raises beef without the additives. You won't even need to drain it and you can add more 'fat flavor' if you want. I do know about this: whitebeefcattle.com or check my channel
I’m allergic to tomatoes ?. I use canned red peppers. This looks great. Gonna try it this weekend.
